Volvo and Renault lift the lid on Freight in the City Expo20 October 2016

Volvo and Renault have released details of vehicles they will be showcasing at the forthcoming Freight in the City Expo (2 November; Alexandra Palace, London).

Volvo Trucks is displaying its new Euro 6-compliant 4x2 FE-320 rigid fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG), as well as a new FM ‘City Tipper’ (pictured).

It’s the UK debut for the FE CNG and the model on display will be a day cab 4x2 rigid – a 6x2 26-tonner is also available – specified for urban distribution and fitted with a fridge body.

Features include a 320bhp G9K, six-cylinder in-line, four-stroke spark ignition engine, with water-cooled, waste-gate turbocharger and stoichiometric, cooled exhaust gas recirculation (SEGR) combustion, plus exhaust after-treatment.

CNG is carried in three chassis-mounted, 100-litre cells, giving the vehicle a range of between 80 and 400km.

The FM City Tipper, also on the Volvo stand, is packed with features to improve safety for vulnerable road users, with a specification is aimed at operators making deliveries to urban construction sites.

It has a lower window in the passenger door, a forward facing camera system and a lower driving position is an option. Low profile 385/55R22.5 tyres on the front axles and 315/70R22.5 tyres on both drive axles aids the lower driving position, and side guards and mudwings are also designed to protect other road users.

The 5100 mm wheelbase chassis has been prepared for installation of a crane/grab, mounted behind the cab and

air-suspended RTS2370A tandem drive axles, with 2.83:1 ratio, feature Volvo’s Tandem Lift, which enables the rearmost axle drive to be disengaged and lifted when operating on-site, at low speed when unladen.

Meanwhile, Renault will be making its debut at Freight in the City and will be showcasing its range of distribution trucks.

This includes a 32-tonne Euro 6 Range C430 8x4 tipper with a Wilcox insulated aggregate body. Safety features include a 360º five-camera recording system – which also works as a blind spot and reverse camera –Cycle Minder with audio warning, BBS reverse alarm (white noise), front and rear LED amber strobe units, and overhead high voltage detection warning.

Also on the Renault stand will be a 3.5-tonne Euro 6 Renault Master panel van, with voice-synthesised turning left alarm, full-length nearside pedestrian/cyclist proximity sensors, and rear proximity sensors with rear stalk light.
