Volvo Bus boss to retire early next year 22 October 2012

Steve Dewhurst, managing director of Volvo Bus, has announced that he is to retire at the end of February 2013.

Dewhurst moved to the Volvo family after the acquisition of Leyland Bus in 1988, having started his career at Leyland Vehicles in 1976. After occupying various administration and sales roles, he took over as managing director on 1 October 2007.

"I am not only proud to have been able to play my part in continuing the fantastic Volvo tradition in this marketplace, but also to have worked with so many wonderful colleagues and customers, sharing the friendship, sense of community and humour that is synonymous with our great industry," comments Dewhurst.

"The time is right for me to take this step and I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Volvo organisation [which has] supported me fantastically over the years and given me such wonderful opportunities," he adds.

"The UK and Ireland remains a vital market for Volvo Bus, and Steve has been an integral part of the success we have achieved over the last 25 years," states Noel Reculet, senior vice president, Volvo Bus Europe.

"I would like to thank him for all his commitment and professionalism and wish him well in his retirement."
