Supplied by dealer Mansel Davies and Son, the Swansea-based operator's latest addition has a Euro 6 D8K 8-litre engine, rated at 280bhp.
The FE is specified with steel suspension on the drive axle and insulated bodywork by Wilcox. Tipping gear is from Edbro.
"The I-Shift in the FE is much better than the manual box," says Jonathan Hardy, owner of the firm. "With I-Shift, the driver can concentrate on steering the truck. With the manual, you tend to be 'driving the 'box' a lot of the time."
The new truck is already averaging 12 mpg, according to Hardy, and joins two other Volvos on his fleet: a 2011 Euro 5 FE and a Euro 6 FM-450 6x4 tipper, which was acquired last year.
The Euro 5 FE has proved extremely reliable, he adds: "We've never had any unplanned expenditure on it. In 130,000km, it has only had two new tyres fitted."
The operator's replacement policy is three years for two-axle trucks and four years for three-axle vehicles.
