Volvo rigids have right ingredients for Williamson Foodservice11 September 2017

Scottish wholesaler Williamson Foodservice has expanded its 29-strong truck fleet with two new Volvo FE-280 18-tonne rigids.

Supplied by Inverness dealer Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the new additions are specified with the FE Comfort cab for extra interior space and factory-fitted lower kerbside passenger door window for increased visibility.

Powered by the D8K engine producing 280bhp, the FE trucks also have I-Shift automated gearboxes and rear-air suspension. Refrigeration is provided by a Carrier Supra unit and the vehicle bodies are by Gray & Adams.

The FE rigids are supplied on a five-year Volvo Gold R&M contract, and are delivering food and drink products to hotels and restaurants across the Highlands.

“Our 1,200 customers have a multitude of food or drink requirements and they are spread over one of the UK’s most challenging distribution areas,” says Gary Williamson, managing director.

“We require vehicles that are well equipped, robust and reliable enough to deal with long-distance runs over single track roads that are regularly subject to extreme changes in weather.

“Also, it almost goes without saying that our customer orders must arrive in the freshest condition and on time. Our new Volvo FE rigids tick all the boxes.”
