Volvo tractors and rigids have the edge for transport operator30 January 2015

Storage and distribution business Edge Transport has taken delivery of its first new series Volvo trucks – six FM tractors and three FL rigids – after experiencing good performance and driver feedback from three FL rigids purchased 18 months ago.

Supplied by dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials, of Deeside, the Wrexham-based operator's six FM-450 6x2 tractors and three FL-250 18-tonne GVW 4x2 rigids are all on Volvo Gold R&M contracts.

The 11-litre, 450bhp FM trucks will cover between 80,000 and 150,000km a year, and are double-shifted. The FL 18-tonners will each cover between 65,000 and 80,000km a year.

The FMs are specified with I-Shift automated gearboxes and the FLs are all equipped with I-Sync automatic transmission.

Maintenance is carried out by the dealer overnight, to maximise vehicle uptime.

Edge Transport managing director Jonathan Edge says he will also now order six more Volvos: two FH tractors and four FL rigids.
