Volvo uses telematics for truck uptime guarantee07 February 2014

Volvo Trucks is now offering a full 100% uptime guarantee for its FH and FM tractor units – the first such service contract ever.

Under the new gold contract, Volvo will take responsibility for all servicing, repair and maintenance and, using remote diagnostics, will monitor critical components to ensure they are optimally replaced before failing.

Volvo's telematics gateway system will record vehicle mileage, gvw, the terrain over which it drives and the condition of key components. A dealer representative checks the data regularly, taking action if the system raises alerts.

If an alert arises for a particular component, the rep will call the customer to arrange for the truck to be taken to the dealership.

Customers with the gold contract pay a fixed monthly fee, with a compensation payment made should the truck not be available at any time.
