VW Commercial Vehicles teams with RSPCA for animal welfare 01 July 2014

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is working with the RSPCA on a project that aims to save the lives of thousands of animals across England and Wales.

VW is providing six short-wheelbase CR30 2.0-litre TDI 134bhp BlueMotion Crafters panel vans, which will be specially converted to the RSPCA's specifications – allowing for a variety of different animals to be safely transported around the country.

Alex Smith, director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, says the RSPCA will benefit from low running costs, thanks to strong residual values and the Crafters' fuel-efficient engines, which return 39.8 mpg and emits 187 g/km of CO2.

The vans will be decorated in colourful wraps – winning designs from a national schools design competition launched yesterday (30 June 2014) and closes on 30 September.

The three year scheme, called 'The Networking Project', will enable the animal charity to find new homes for pets by providing transport across the country for sick and injured wildlife, as well as rescued and abandoned animals.

The scheme will also contribute to the RSPCA maximising the efficiency of its centres when caring for animals, rather than relying on private care options when its shelters are full.
