VW says mobile servicing saves van fleets £1.1m a year11 July 2019

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is reporting a surge in demand for mobile servicing, and reckons this has saved UK van fleets around £1.1m in downtime costs.

Mobile servicing is now offered by 21 of VW’s van centres, with technicians carrying out almost 10,000 jobs at more than 4,000 locations last year. VW estimates downtime to be £500 per van per day.

The company says its figures show 71% of van drivers see the benefit of a mobile servicing unit, with those based in and around London most likely to use this facility.

Van centres can despatch mobile technicians in a specially converted Volkswagen Crafters. They are able to carry out a range of services, including inspections, MOT repairs, air conditioning servicing, minor warranty work and remote software updates.

David Hanna, head of service and parts at VW Commercial Vehicles, says: “Our message is clear: we’ll work when you’re not, to minimise downtime and reduce associated costs, which is consistently one of the biggest issues for our customers.”
