Wagon and drag vehicles cut truck movements for Bedfords 17 June 2011

Bedfords Transport has diversified its fleet to strengthen its partnership with one of its leading blue chip clients, and is using a wagon and drag system.

The national logistics provider chose Volvo FE340 rigids with Concept and Micra demount box trailers, which Steff Pfadenhauer, managing director at Bedfords, believes is improving efficiency between warehouses.

He also says the increased volume is a big advantage – providing for three decks over two trailers.

Introduced to the fleet in April, the wagon and drags have dedicated Bedfords drivers for three vehicles, transporting and delivering pallets from West Yorkshire, across the UK to all major suppliers and distribution centres.

Bedfords has also purchased two additional bodies to improve the time efficiency of deliveries. Pfadenhauer says this allows drivers to drop off a trailer for loading and then continue to the next delivery or pick up.

"The investment in the wagon and drags shows our versatility and willingness to enter into a true partnership," states Pfadenhauer.

"The use of these trailers is cost effective for our client, as it allows more pallets to be loaded onto the trailers than with our artics. As a result of this, Bedfords has reduced the number of vehicles which were dedicated to this contract."
