Wales Enviromental saves ‘small fortune’ with new Mercedes trucks10 December 2018

Waste management and drainage firm Wales Environmental has taken delivery of a 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Antos tanker, the latest vehicle in the operator’s strategy to move from used to new vehicles.

Supplied by dealer Euro Commercials, the latest addition is an Antos 2527 tanker powered by a 7.7-litre straight-six engine with 268bhp output.

The rigid has a ClassicSpace M-cab and a body by Fuller Tankers, of Chepstow, with 3,000-gallon waste tank. A second tank carries up to 250 gallons of clean water for washing down and replenishing welfare units.

The Atego joins three new Actros 2446 tractors delivered earlier this year.

The Cardiff-based operator decided to change from buying used trucks in a bid to improve fuel performance, reliability and cut the repair and maintenance bill.

“These are still early days, of course, but in terms of reliability our Mercedes-Benz trucks haven’t missed a beat,” confirms John Jones, transport manager.

“They are also highly economical. Each Actros is using £30-£40 worth of diesel less per day than our previous tractor units – a reduction in fuel consumption of this magnitude is worth a small fortune over the course of a year.”

All four vehicles are being inspected and maintained by the dealer under Complete Service contracts, with Jones declaring the dealer’s service to be “first class”.
