Wales gets first full-time traffic commissioner12 August 2016

Nick Jones has been appointed as the first full-time traffic commissioner for Wales, and will take up his new post on 1 October.

The appointment means other traffic commissioners will be redeployed: the changes will take effect from 31 October, so transitional arrangements will be in place for October, to prepare for the moves and ensure that licensing and regulatory activities are not affected

Nick Denton will become TC for the West Midlands, based in Birmingham; Sarah Bell will take on London and the South East, based in Eastbourne; and Kevin Rooney will become TC for the West of England, based in Bristol, and will retain his role for the North East in the interim period.

Senior traffic commissioner Beverley Bell says: “I congratulate my colleague, Mr Jones, on his appointment as the first, full time traffic commissioner for Wales. His commitment to proper regulation in the country is well established, and I know his knowledge and expertise will be vital in setting up a full-time service for operators and the travelling public.

“I am also confident that the redeployment of my fellow commissioners Mr Denton, Miss Bell and Mr Rooney will ensure these three diverse regions continue to be regulated efficiently, effectively and proportionately.”
