Warrens Group fuels up with biogas-powered Eurocargo NP22 October 2018

Recycling business Warrens Group has taken delivery of a 16-tonne IVECO Eurocargo Natural Power, which it is fuelling with biogas produced from its own food waste collections.

Supplied by dealer North East Truck and Van, in Billingham, the operator’s new addition to its 35-strong fleet has a six-cylinder engine with 750Nm of torque and 201bhp.

As it is compliant with Euro VI step D emission levels, the vehicle can operate in restricted areas in city centres – important for Warrens Group, as it looks to future-proof its fleet.

Adam Warren, director, says the truck maker’s experience in gas vehicle technology was key to securing the deal: “The team at IVECO were brilliant in helping us understand the advantages of natural gas, and were able to supply and specify a truck faster than any other manufacturer we spoke to.

“We recognise natural gas as the future and believe this is the start of a great relationship with IVECO. The support they’ve given us has been so good that we’re already planning to add more of their gas-powered vehicles to our fleet.”

The operator has also run a diesel-powered Eurocargo for the last four years, describing it as “a real workhorse”.

The new Eurocargo NP is equipped with a food refuse body, by Macpac, and is expected to remain in service for five years.

Refuelling is carried out at Warrens Group’s facility in Newton Aycliffe.
