Weir Waste gives the green light to Mercedes Antos trucks13 July 2015

Recycling and waste management business Weir Waste has commissioned six Mercedes-Benz Antos refuse trucks to meet growing demand for its services.

Supplied by dealer Midlands Truck and Van, the Birmingham-based operators new additions are five 26-tonne 2530s and one 18-tonne 1824 from the Antos heavy distribution range, all with Dennis Eagle Olympus rear-end loader bodies.

Weir's commercial and industrial manager Rajesh Brigue says the firm's Oldbury site is the largest automated commercial material recovery facility in the West Midlands.

"It's important that the trucks we use should reflect our commitment to the environment and, with their low-emission Euro 6 engines, our Mercedes-Benz Antos fit the bill perfectly," he says.

The Antos trucks – Weir's first Mercedes vehicles for 10 years – have short ClassicSpace (S) day cabs and 7.7-litre six-cylinder BlueEfficiency Power engines.

The six-wheelers have outputs of 300bhp, while the 18-tonner produces 240bhp. All drive through PowerShift 3 automated transmissions.
