Welsh haulier compares Euro 5 and 6 with new Volvo FH tractors13 March 2014

Haulage business B&T Hicks Transport has taken delivery of four Volvo FH 6x2 tractor units – three Euro 5 and one Euro 6, to enable the operator to compare fuel efficiency.

Supplied by dealer Truck and Bus Wales & West, all four have the Globetrotter XL cab and are equipped with a 13-litre, 500bhp engine and I-Shift automated transmission. They are supplied with a Volvo gold contract, which guarantees vehicle uptime.

To enable B&T Hicks to conduct a fuel performance comparison, it will run all the trucks for national haulage, coupled to curtainside trailers, and expects each to cover 160,000km a year.

The Newport-based haulage firm has 59 vehicles and has operated Volvo trucks for more than 30 years. Terry Hicks, director, says: "The new-generation Volvos present a strong image for the company... They're reliable, fuel usage is very good and our drivers like them."
