Westons expands recovery fleet with Volvo FL03 February 2017

Family-run vehicle recovery business Westons Recovery (Abington) has taken delivery of a new Volvo FL-240 4x2 rigid. Fitted with a tilt and slide body, by Dave Bland Engineering, the 5.9m wheelbase 16-tonner joins eight other Volvo trucks in the fleet.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the operator’s latest addition has a factory-fitted crew cab offering a six-seat capacity.

Westons Recovery’s founder Bill Weston also opted for Volvo’s six speed I-Sync automated mechanical gearbox and a RS1132A single reduction rear axle with a ratio of 4.13:1.

The medium height chassis is equipped with front steel and rear air suspension, and the body can be used to recover any vehicle from a motor cycle to a large motorhome.

Members of the Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators and the Scottish Vehicle Recovery Association, Westons covers the M74 between junctions 10 and 17 for Police Scotland, as well as the lower areas of Lothians and Borders and Dumfries and Galloway regions for a range of customers.

Other vehicles in its fleet include a five-axle Volvo FM ‘rotator’ with Boniface gear, which can lift up to 70 tonnes, 6x4 versions of the FH16 in 660bhp and 700bhp variants, and a Euro 6 FH13 with a 540bhp engine.
