Wilcox speeds up with specialist welding equipment 25 September 2015

Wilcox Commercial Vehicles says it has improved rigid and tipping trailer bodybuilding efficiency and saved energy by installing specialist Miller welding equipment, from Foster Industrial, throughout its entire factory

Having invested more than £3 million in an additional 3,000 sq ft factory earlier this year, the firm installed the Miller welding equipment for use with its aluminium bodies and says jobs are now completed more quickly and with higher quality welds.

“Welding aluminium presents a number of challenges, which can make it more difficult and time consuming – such as the metal’s high thermal conductivity and thermal expansion. But the output and behaviour of the Miller equipment has been especially designed for this,” states Wilcox managing director Vito Ronzano.

“It means that we get consistently good results, which, in a business renowned for the quality of its products, is incredibly important.”

Wilcox has spent around £110,000 on 12 Miller XR MIG push pull systems and seven Dynasty 350 TIG systems as part of its expansion plans.

Both pieces of equipment have an inverter power source which means they take up less floor space, use less electricity, generate less fumes and are cleaner and faster than earlier pieces of equipment.
