World first for weigh-in-motion tyre pressure technology24 February 2014

In a world first, WheelRight has achieved accreditation from the National Measurement Office for its weigh-in-motion tyre pressure technology.

The product enables transport operators to check axle weights and tyre pressures, without the need for on-vehicle devices or manual intervention.

It has now been certified to Weigh in Motion standard OIML (Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale) R134 – the first time for a weigh-in-motion system which incorporates tyre pressure monitoring in a single product.

The solution features a sensory pad which is embedded into the road, at a point where vehicles enter or leave a facility – no sensors are required on the vehicle. As the vehicle drives over the pad, measurements of weight and axle load are taken, as well as vehicle tyre pressures and temperatures, then subsequently analysed.

Within seconds, readings are emailed to the depot. They can also be delivered to the driver's mobile phone.

To achieve the R134 accreditation, WheelRight's technology underwent a series of laboratory and practical tests to prove accuracy and consistency.
