When it comes to driver conduct and compliance, fleet managers can use case study examples from the regulator to boost drivers’ knowledge

How many of your drivers know they would face a four-week suspension for using a mobile phone while driving a commercial vehicle? Or that they could be suspended for six weeks for a second speeding offence?

The Office for the Traffic Commissioner is reminding fleet managers that it includes 26 examples of how the regulator deals with driver conduct issues in its vocational driver guidance (see link below), and these can be used by managers during driver education sessions.

In ‘statutory document no 6: vocational driver conduct’, annex C looks at a range of examples covering circumstances such as mobile phone offences, drink driving bans, using a magnet to interfere with the tachograph, using another driver’s digicard and failing to respond to the directions of a DVSA stopping officer.

The guidance also lists the starting points which traffic commissioners consider for different offences.
