Facing the need to maximise workshop space while replacing an outdated 4-post lift, the council chose the Skylift, a scissor-lift system that is said to offer a compact footprint.
According to Stertil, this not only creates more room within the workshop but also enhances efficiency and provides a safer, more comfortable working environment for the depot’s technicians.
The depot opted for the SKY200 model, part of Stertil-Koni’s truck-lifting range, which has a 20-tonne lifting capacity—ideal for accommodating the waste trucks regularly serviced at the facility.
To tailor the lift to their specific requirements, Dacorum Borough Council also opted for additional features, including an LED lighting kit to improve visibility under vehicles during inspections and maintenance. These upgrades ensure the technicians can work more safely and efficiently.
With its 8-metre, flush-mounted platforms, the Skylift is claimed to allow for easy drive-on access, and lifts vehicles to a height of up to 1.75 metres, making it suitable for various tasks such as general maintenance, repairs, and wheel alignment checks. The lift's design—featuring no base frame or cross beams, with only lifting legs at either end—allows for unrestricted access to the vehicle from all sides.
The Skylift has an independent mechanical locking system starting at just 90mm above the floor. The lift also features individual measuring devices in each leg, ensuring smooth, level synchronisation within a 15mm tolerance, further boosting safety and operational precision.
To streamline operations further, the Skylift is equipped with Stertil-Koni’s patented eBright Smart Control System. This control panel, featuring a touchscreen interface, provides the technicians with control over the lift, simplifying the process of raising and lowering vehicles and enhancing overall efficiency.
