Training
The free-to-attend Microlise Transport Conference 2025 returns to the Coventry Building Society Arena on 18 March 2025 – and at the event, the IRTE will run three skills workshops for delegates attending.

The IRTE will run three workshops at next week's Microlise Transport Conference

The IRTE workshops at the Mircolise Transport Conference will give the opportunity to the around 1,200 delegates from the road transport industry, who will be in attendance at the event.

The first workshop at 08.30h entitled 'Future-proofing your workforce: Career mapping for road transport engineers' will be given by Emma Thompson MSOE, executive director at the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE).

As transport and logistics leaders, enhancing and polishing your current skills portfolio is critical to prepare your workforce and navigate the future. At this session, Emma Thompson, will guide delegates through a comprehensive skills map that leaders can use to gauge your current competencies, identify skills gaps and shape your upskilling programmes to unlock untapped potential within your organisations.

All attendees of this session will also get a free copy of the IRTE Skills Map.

The second workshop at 08.55h entitled 'Raising the benchmark for competent technicians across the industry' will be given by Richard Belton CAE FIMI MSOE MIRTE, quality director at the S&B Automotive Academy.

Safety and ethics are paramount in road transport engineering. Ensuring your technicians who maintain and repair vehicles in the commercial vehicle, trailer and passenger carrying industries are competent and have up-to-date knowledge ensures efficient operations and cost-savings in the long run.

irtec is an independent accreditation and validates the competence of technicians working in the HGV, PSV, LEV and other related spaces. Are your technicians irtec qualified? Richard will take delegates through irtec competencies and what it means to run an organisation with irtec qualified technicians.

The third and final workshop at 09.20h entitled 'A deep dive into the new maintenance provision rating scheme (MPRS)' will be given by Nick Elliott, a specialist transport consultant and chairman of the IRTE Professional Sector Council.

In late Spring 2025, the industry will roll out the MPRS, the next generation of compliance in commercial vehicle workshop accreditation.

Backed by the Traffic Commissioners and government bodies, MPRS aims to reform current best practices in line with future needs and expectations of the industry, improving standards and professional practices in commercial vehicle maintenance.

Nick will explain what this new rating system looks like, what competencies workshops and maintenance facilities need to meet and how getting rated by the scheme elevates your organisation’s standing.
