Isuzu Truck launches new scheme for tomorrow’s top technicians

Isuzu Truck (UK) is launching an advanced apprenticeship programme to help its dealers meet the demand for skilled technicians.
The ITUK Advanced Apprenticeship Programme will run with Skillnet, which will recruit suitable candidates and liaise with Isuzu dealers. Dealers will be required to employ the apprentice for a minimum of one year and, if both parties are satisfied at the end of the first year, a commitment of a further two years is required to complete the apprenticeship. After the three-year programme, the apprentices will move on to Isuzu's Master Technician programme. The first stage includes: VCQ Level 2 in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair; functional skills Level 2; and IMI technical certificate Level 2. This concludes with Level 3 qualifications at the end of the course. Several dealers have already committed to the programme, including Weston's Car & Commercials, of Hitchin. Managing director Martin Ward says: "We've signed up for the Isuzu Advanced Apprenticeship Programme because we want to invest in the future of the industry, our brand, our business and of course our customers. "We're looking for young people who are enthusiastic, dedicated, are willing to learn and have the commitment necessary to achieve the qualification that will give them a great career."
