Report lists the most-recalled marques for trucks and vans - UPDATED

Independent financial comparison website Know Your Money has published a report of the most-recalled vehicle marques over the last five years, based on DVSA data.

The findings are broken down by make, model and year of recall, and cover cars, motorcycles, trucks, vans and buses. Of all the recalls from 2014-19, cars account for 94%, vans 3%, motorcycles 1%, trucks 1% and buses just 0.29%.

Within the commercial vehicle data, the number of trucks recalled peaked in 2017-2018, while the most recalls occurred in 2018.

In 2017, more than 62% of the truck recalls were by Mercedes; the following year, almost two-thirds of van recalls were Mercedes-Benz, according to the report.

TE asked the manufacturer for its comment on the report. Both Mercedes-Benz Vans and the truck division – which is now part of Daimler Truck, following the recent group restructure – said recalls and other customer service measures were used to address “post-processing needs in the context of our continuous product monitoring”, and that product quality “has always been our top priority”.

Looking at the data for buses, Volvo consistently had the most recalls for 2014-18, but was overtaken by Alexander Dennis in 2019. In fact, says the report, there were significantly more bus recalls in 2019 than in previous years.
