Supplied by dealer Mansel Davies Group, the new additions are powered by D8K engines producing 247bhp and driving through six-speed I-Sync transmissions.
Both vehicles are fitted with 7.6m Solomon refrigerated bodies and are specified with a hybrid Frigoblock-Thermo King refrigeration system.
Martin Jones, director of transport operations at Castell Howell Foods, explains the specification: “In the past, Frigoblock used an alternator/generator system, powered by the truck’s engine. That system was great when travelling down the road, but the cooling ceased if the engine was turned off after parking up in town.
“However, the new Thermo King Hybrid solution keeps the proven alternator/generator system, but when the ignition is turned off, it automatically switches over to an ancillary diesel-powered refrigeration unit. When the ignition is switched back on, the ancillary cuts out instantly and it’s back to electric motor power,” he adds.
One of the rigids carries a special livery to promote holidays in Wales – the design is the winning entry from a local schools competition.
