Will Whitehorn (pictured), director of Stagecoach Group, is the new president of CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport), having been inaugurated on 20 May 2016. He has been a vice-president of the institute for the past four years and has been in the transport sector all of his working life. Whitehorn takes over from immediate past-president Beverley Bell, who is now patron of the SOE (Society of Operations Engineers, umbrella group for the IRTE).

Leigh Pomlett has taken over from Ian Veitch as president of the FTA (Freight Transport Association). Pomlett has been executive director of Ceva Group since January 2015, and has worked in transport and logistics for his entire career, including senior roles with BRS, Exel and DHL Supply Chain.

Martin Merrick has been promoted to senior vice president for retail development at Volvo Trucks. He was formerly regional managing director for Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North and Scotland, and now moves to Gothenburg, Sweden, where he will report to Volvo Trucks president Claes Nilsson. Merrick has been with Volvo Group for 28 years.

Ronnie Macgregor, who has been manager at the MAN Truck & Bus Dunfermline branch for nearly five years, has now clocked up 25 years with MAN. Macgregor started his career straight out school with KSK Freight, in Kirkcaldy, as a technician apprentice. He was then TUPEd to TDG McPhersons, which was then taken over by MAN Truck & Bus UK.

Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has strengthened its senior management team with Matthew Mardle joining as operations director and Clive Maudsley as finance director. Mardle comes from Giti Tirewhere he was formerly European supply chain director and general manager for Germany. Maudsley, previously ran a business consultancy firm covering Europe.

Autoglass has appointed Nick Cleary and Sarah Ringrose to the newly created roles of customer and digital director, and head of customer experience. Cleary first joined Autoglass more than 25 years ago and was previously technology director. Ringrose has been integral to the national roll-out of the Advanced Driver Assistance System calibration solution at Autoglass.

MAN Truck & Bus UK has promoted Eyan Clements to the position of TopUsed sales executive, following more than a decade of service to the company. He will be working out of MAN’s Swindon UKI base.

Commercial vehicle driving performance systems specialist SmartDrive Systems has expanded its UK team with the appointment of Gary Brian, as engineering project manager. He has more than 30 years of engineering and management experience, primarily in the automotive, telecoms and IT industries, and now assumes responsibility for managing SmartDrive’s installation logistics for pilot programmes and new customer rollouts.

Ryder has appointed Simon Ranner as UK operations director, reporting to David Hunt, vice president and managing director, Ryder Europe. With more than 30 years of experience in commercial transport and logistics, he will now be responsible for Ryder’s UK network of 29 locations, as well as its engineering and Fleetcare operations. Ranner has held senior positions in commercial transport and 3PL distribution for organisations including Theo Paphitis Retail Group, Unipart Logistics, Tesco, Punch Taverns and Scottish & Newcastle plc.
