Simon Elliott has been appointed the new managing director of MAN Truck & Bus UK, taking over from Des Evans, who stood down due to ill health. Elliott, who has served as managing director of Volkswagen Group Ireland for the last three years, will assume the post on 8 September 2014.

Martin Fausset, managing director of Shoreham-based global engineering technology firm Ricardo UK, has been commended for his "major contribution to the aeronautical and automotive industries" with an honorary doctorate of engineering from the University of Brighton.

Olof Persson, president and CEO of the Volvo Group, is to become co-chairman of the United Nations' Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport. Its mandate is to accelerate implementation in line with the UN's objectives of inclusive and equitable growth, social development and protection of the environment.

Chris Smith is the new head of truck and bus marketing for Stoke-on-Trent-based Michelin Tyre, with responsibility for the UK and Ireland. Smith began his career at Michelin in 2007 as a truck sales account manager before becoming regional fleet account manager in 2009 and latterly truck regional sales manager in the South East.

Commercial vehicle products distributor IMS has appointed Craig Lawton to oversee fleet sales in Scotland and Northern Ireland. He was formerly sales manager at DB Wilson & Co, in Glasgow and reports to Ben McEvoy, fleet sales manager at IMS.

Trailer financing specialist LHE Finance (part of Dawson Group), has appointed Mike Dixon to the newly created role of development manager. His remit includes a dual focus on expanding LHE's portfolio of finance products, while supporting Dawsonrentals' Truck & Trailer rental business. He was formerly trailer development manager with Dawsonrentals.

Karin Mehwald is the new international director of human resources at Europart. She now reports directly to CEO Pierre Fleck. Mehwald was previously HR manager in Germany.
