Economic Development - Transport Manager - OM2 - £44,744 - £54,049 - Ref. ET5025346006 June 2018

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, driven and experienced Transport Manager to lead and develop its fleet operations operating from its newly built ‘state of the art’ facility at Coleridge Road, Grangetown, Cardiff.

The Council’s Fleet Service maintains a mixed fleet of around 800 vehicles ranging from small cars and vans up to large heavy goods vehicles in the form of Tippers, Flatbeds, Luton’s, Access Platforms, Gritters, Gullies, Cranes, Hook Loaders and Refuse Vehicles up to 32 tonnes GVW.The Council has the ambition of growing its fleet maintenance service by providing services to external organisations and partners.

The successful candidate will:

• effectively and continuously manage the transport operations of the Council to ensure full compliance with the Council’s Operators Licence requirements;

• have overall management responsibility for the provision of appropriate, safe, well maintained and environmentally sustainable transport solutions to a wide range of internal and external customers (e.g. schools, council partners);

• represent the Council and provide strategic and professional expertise, direction and advice to elected members and senior management in relation to the provision of a comprehensive transport and fleet management service, and

• develop new commercial business opportunities for the Council’s Central Transport Service.

The successful candidate will have, in particular:

• a Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport (CPC);

• experience of undertaking the role of Transport Manager for an organisation with a large and diverse operational fleet;

• experience in developing effective working relationships to encourage respect, trust and confidence;

• experience in effectively managing and monitoring performance and setting clear objectives for the review of individual and service level performance;

• ability to exercise visible and supportive leadership, which empowers, enables and develops staff to achieve results;

• effective communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees, including management and outside agencies, and

• strong commitment to excellence in service delivery and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate will be able operate at strategic and operational level, respond to the changing needs of the service, demonstrate an ability to solve problems, and be committed to meeting customer needs.

This post is subject to a mandatory occupational health appointment.
