100 new Actros tractors accelerate fuel savings for RT Keedwell 31 October 2013

West Country haulier RT Keedwell is achieving fuel savings of up to one mile per gallon with the first half of its 100-unit order of Mercedes-Benz new Actros tractor units.

The operator ordered the new Actros 2545 BigSpace models from Avonmouth dealer City West Commercials, after its previous order of eight 2546 MegaSpace tractors delivered better mpg performance than other brands.

RT Keedwell managing director Stuart Keedwell says the new tractor units have proved to be the most economical on his mixed-marque fleet of 400 trucks – averaging 8.3—8.4 mpg.

And he adds that the new trucks have boosted fuel efficiency even further.

"Our latest Mercedes are recording between 9 and 9.5 mpg," he says. "That represents a giant step forward compared to our previous Actros, so obviously we're delighted."

RT Keedwell has acquired the new vehicles through Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. All are powered by 450bhp straight-six engines mated to Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmissions and speed-limited, like other vehicles on the company's fleet, to 85 kph.

All are Euro 5 models with the exception of a single Euro 6 unit, yet to be delivered. City West is delivering the remainder of the order in weekly batches.
