AA on road to recovery with 550-strong order for Ford vans23 December 2015

The AA has placed an order with Ford for more than 550 Transit Custom and Courier vans, taking its total order for the Transit Custom to almost 850 in the two years since the vehicle was launched.

Most of the AA’s latest order is for the Transit Custom, with around 400 being fitted by Ambrosetti UK with the breakdown organisation’s new recovery trailer system, heavy duty electrical systems, special equipment racking and trademark yellow livery.

A further 70 Transit Custom models are being equipped as AA Battery Assist vehicles, which carry a range of replacement batteries and deliver a 24/7 roadside fitment service for AA members. Nine Transit Customs will also be kitted out as AA Fuel Assist vehicles.

It is also one of the largest orders to date for the newly launched Ford Transit Courier – the AA will be putting 70 of these into operation with its agents selling memberships across the country.

AA commercial vehicle fleet engineer Chris Wiltshire says the Transit Custom is “very well received” by the engineers, adding: “Technicians like the working space, the cab and driving position, and we like it for the best load area in class, enhanced towing capacity and very good whole-life costs.”
