Adnams Brewery toasts reliability of Euro 6 Volvo FL rigid drays06 March 2015

Adnams Brewery has taken delivery of two new-series Volvo FL rigid drays, increasing Volvo’s share of its 28-strong fleet to 50%.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the Southwold-based brewery's latest additions feature Comfort cabs and I-Sync automated gearboxes, and are plated for 16 and 18 tonnes gvw.

Vehicle bodies are by Colliers Truck Builders, of Witham, Essex, and include a load-restraint system, as well as full-closure tail-lifts and under-body gas racks.

"The 18-tonne Volvo FL, with a wheelbase of 5.9m and 7.9m body, gives us a 10-tonne payload, which is ideal for our rural distribution needs," says Adnams' supply chain manager Kevin Wells.

"The 16-tonne unit, featuring a 4.7m wheelbase and 6.4m body, offers exceptional manoeuvrability and is now based at our Barking distribution centre in east London."

The Euro 6 vehicles are already achieving 12-13 mpg, the same as Adnams' Euro 5 units, says Wells. The move to Euro 6, he adds, is "a great step forwards in terms of protecting our future".

"What our business needs is trucks that don't let us down and back-up when we need it, and to these ends Volvo more than meets our requirements."
