Andover Trailer steps up to plant hire haulage 24 February 2011

East-Anglian plant hire firm GB Digger Hire has taken delivery of a bespoke tri-axle step-frame beavertail trailer, from manufacturer Andover Trailers, that it says will improve deliveries.

The new SFCL 48 trailer, which measures 13.6m by 2.53m, uses Andover Trailers' upper-deck double-profile design, and will be one in a fleet of two trailers and three tractor units transporting a variety of plant from GB Digger Hire's base in Norwich.

GB Digger Hire's managing director Graham Byrne explains that the trailer has been designed to carry equipment such as telescopic handlers, excavators, scissor lifts, dumpers, asphalt rollers and forklift trucks,

"The new step-frame will be an invaluable asset to our fleet, and a key factor in our ability to provide a reliable, high quality plant hire service to our customers throughout the UK," he says.

In brief detail, the trailer has been equipped with SAF air suspension with raise/lower control, lifting rear axle and an electronic braking system. Machinery will be loaded via two 2.5m hydraulic ramps – fitted with Expamet to allow air flow and minimise fuel consumption.

Multiple lashing points secure the load and other safety features include hydraulic steady legs, wide-load marker boards and red warning lights, as well as strobe lights mounted on the ramps, conspicuity markings and twin Hella lights.

The trailer will be coupled to a high specification Scania R500 6x2 tag axle tractor unit, performing between 30 and 40 drops per week, and covering up to 100,000 miles every year.
