At your service: FTA promotes logistics careers to army personnel29 June 2015

The Freight Transport Association is urging army personnel to consider a career in logistics when they leave the force, and presented the sector to service leavers at an event last week (25 June).

Held at the Catterick barracks, the event was organised by the Career Transition Partnership, which provides resettlement services for those finishing their military careers.

Armed forces personnel, due to leave service in the next few months, heard from industry experts on career options in transport and logistics, the training and qualifications required, and the ways in which they can maximise their chances of success within the sector.

"The logistics industry is looking for qualified, experienced and highly skilled people, and it makes perfect sense to engage with service leavers, who can bring a wealth of skills to an organisation," says James Hookham, FTA's deputy chief executive.

FTA has launched a 'careers clearing house' for anyone interested in a career in the logistics industry – whether they are from the armed forces or not. Jobseekers can email logisticscareers@fta.co.uk to be put in touch with companies looking for staff.

The logistics industry has 1.5 million employers, employs 8% of the UK workforce, and expects to recruit 1.2 million additional employees by 2022.
