Automotive logistics operator switches to Intelligent’s 3G cameras05 March 2015

Automotive logistics provider Carlson Vehicle Transfer is rolling out a 3G camera solution from Intelligent Telematics, in a bid to minimise insurance costs, reduce accident rates and support driver training.

The IT1000 forward-facing camera will be fitted across all 142 vehicle transporters within the company's fleet to capture and provide immediate access to footage of any collisions, near misses or harsh driving events.

Carlson had an SD-card solution, but this was proving to be unreliable. High failure rates of the SD-cards meant data was often lost or corrupted, and footage had to be sent manually to its head office.

The IT1000 system gives Carlson immediate visibility of all incidents or collisions via an online portal, with notification by email, screen pop-up or SMS alert when an event occurs.

"We are looking to use the IT1000 3G cameras to achieve a reduction in both accident frequency and insurance costs, while encouraging high levels of driving excellence within our fleet," says Carl Richardson, Carlson's managing director.

"We have already had a motorway incident contested successfully by our own insurer in the case of a car braking harshly and deliberately in front of a transporter."
