Automotive LPG could solve diesel problems 29 September 2015

Automotive LPG says it can offer “an immediate solution to the emissions scandal” centred on VW’s admission of installing ‘defeat devices’ to cheat emissions test in the US and potentially around the world.

“With vehicle emissions making headline news worldwide, UKLPG is calling on policy makers and manufacturers to take note of the potential benefits of automotive liquefied petroleum gas,” states , says Rob Shuttleworth, chief executive of LP Gas trade association UKLPG.

“Automotive LPG presents an immediate and viable solution to the car industry, which is looking to secure NOx emissions reductions on the UK’s roads,” he continues.

“A long-established fuel with a UK-wide infrastructure already in place, automotive LPG is a versatile, plentiful and naturally clean energy source.”

He makes no apology for this opportunistic intervention, simply stating: “At a time when air quality is high on the global agenda, automotive LPG deserves wider recognition for these credentials.”

He also refers to the Low CVP Infrastructure Road Map, which has identified that 40,000 automotive LPG conversions per year until 2030 “could be a significant contributor to the UK’s carbon targets”.

“We urge the automotive industry to give consumers the chance to benefit from this proven solution by seizing the immediate opportunity to reduce NOx emissions and reintroduce automotive LPG powered vehicles to UK vehicle production lines.”
