Bamford Bus Company in Wrightbus rescue deal25 October 2019

Bamford Bus Company has acquired the business and assets of Ballymena-based Wrightbus, which went into administration in September with the loss of 1,200 jobs.

Administrator Deloitte confirmed the deal in a statement this week (22 October); the deal, for an undisclosed sum, includes Wright Group, Wrightbus, Wright En-Drive and component business Metallix, and includes an option to buy the international division of Wright Group.

Bamford Bus Company is said to be determining the size and composition of the workforce required for its future plans, but the 60 staff retained by the Deloitte have already transferred to Bamford Bus Company.

Bamford Bus Company is owned by Jo Bamford, the son of JCB chairman Lord Anthony Bamford. According to Companies House data, Bamford Bus Company was incorporated on 18 September 2019 and its registered address is in London.

In a separate deal, Jans Composites has also agreed to buy Wright Composites for an undisclosed sum.
