“Running tippers is a tough business, but it has to be a bit of fun as well,” quips company boss Danny Gallen.
“We want our business to be exceptional and recognised as such. So our vehicle liveries help us to be a stand-out business,” he continues.
“But that’s just the start: we also build the maximum specification into our trucks as well,” he adds, pointing to the fleet standard of Thompsons bodies and Volvo chassis.
In fact, all DJ Grab’s 15-strong fleet use Thompsons’ all-steel, double-skinned Loadmaster bodies fitted with AutoLift hydraulically operated tailgate.
Each is mounted on Volvo FMX chassis and hi-spec cabs – the latest examples, including Batman, also having been specified with Volvo’s 13 litre 540bhp engine driving through I- Shift AMTs (automated manual transmissions).
Batman’s truck-mounted crane can also be operated from within the cab – not least so that for side loading with a shovel, it can be raised out of the way without the driver leaving his seat.
Gallen says Batman has already been put to work – and he’s now looking forward to another two new Super heroes on order and joining the fleet early in the summer.
