Beeston rates Volvo B11R as ‘clear front runner’01 October 2015

Coach operator Beestons has taken delivery of a Euro 6 Volvo B11R, describing the vehicle as a “clear front runner”.

The B11R is an extension to the Ipswich-based operator’s fleet, which is currently 50% Volvo.

Tom Munson, operations director for Beestons, says: “We did look at potential alternatives from other manufacturers, but we really liked the look of the Volvo B11R Euro 6.

“Based on our experience of working with Volvo, and indeed the feedback we’ve received from other operators who’ve been very impressed with its performance, the B11R was the clear front runner for us in our decision.

“With Volvo Bus you get the complete package. They are responsive and you have the reassurance of their dealer network. The vehicle is already hard at work and although it’s early days the fuel consumption performance has been a very pleasant surprise.”

Meanwhile, Volvo has made several personnel announcements this week, to coincide with Coach & Bus Live (30 September to 1 October 2015, NEC, Birmingham).

Volvo Bus product planning manager Adrian Wickens – former chairman of the SMMT bus and coach section – retired yesterday after 42 years with the business.

Adrian Felton, formerly product manager, has been appointed as city mobility manager to coincide with the rolling out of Volvo’s electro mobility strategy (which, until now, has been lead by Adrian Wickens).

Felton’s product manager role will be filled by Dan Tanner, who joins from Volvo Truck and Bus East Anglia.

And a restructure of the organisation sees Ian Wallace taking up the new role of product and support director. James Hyde has been appointed retail sales director; both now join the Volvo Bus executive team.

Ian Wallace’s previous position as service delivery manager for the UK and Ireland is now filled by Kevin Capes, who joins from Volvo Trucks.

Commercial sales director Phil Owen’s remit is extended to include contract sales and telematics business development.

Matt Howroyd takes up the reins as business control director, following the retirement of Gordon Reid.
