Belfast City Council selects Masternaut for fleet-wide telematics20 August 2015

Belfast City Council has awarded a £300,000-plus contract to Masternaut to implement telematics across its municipal vehicle fleet to cover tracking while also delivering improvements in driver behaviour and safety, as well as fuel savings.

"This is the first time we've implemented a telematics system and we're keen to see the end results," comments George Wright, head of service at Belfast City Council.

"It's important to stress that this isn't a 'big brother' exercise. As employers, we have a duty of care to our staff to provide them with a safe working environment... Masternaut Connect is the tool that enables us to do that."

Belfast City Council selected the system after a three-way competitive pitch with two other unnamed telematics providers.

Masternaut Connect and its suite of fleet management software will now be implemented on some 350 commercial vehicles, ranging from LCVs and vans to larger vehicles including RCVs (refuse collection vehicles).

In-cab devices will provide driver feedback devices, while Masternaut has also been contracted to support back office staff and driver training, as well as covering system maintenance.

Fleet managers at the council expect Masternaut Connect and its suite of fleet management software to deliver in-depth visibility of the fleet in real time, so improving scheduling and helping cut fuel costs.

Driver behaviour management is to be introduced after the initial implementation phase, they say, allowing fleet managers to evaluate areas for improvement and provide education.
