Belgian electric bus order ‘largest ever’ for Volvo10 February 2017

Belgian public transport operator TEC Group has placed an order with Volvo Buses for 90 Volvo 7900 electric hybrid vehicles along with 12 charging stations, which will be delivered by ABB.

Said to be Volvo’s largest ever order for complete solutions for electric buses, 55 of the vehicles will be used in the Charleroi and 35 in Namur.

The operator previously ordered 11 Volvo 7900 electric hybrids with charging stations for Namur, and the system went into operation last month. Once the additional 35 new buses go into service, 90% of Namur’s public transport will be electrified.

Volvo’s electric hybrids and ABB’s fast-charging systems are based on a common interface called OppCharge, whereby the charging stations can be used by electrified buses from other manufacturers. OppCharge is now being implemented in more than 12 countries.
