Bibby shrinks carbon footprint for fourth year31 May 2017
Logistics business Bibby Distribution has reported a 4.4% reduction in carbon emissions across the group for 2016 – the fourth consecutive annual drop.
The latest reduction, says Bibby, means that its CO2 emissions per km have improved by 10% since 2011.
The operator says a long-term environmental strategy – which includes investment in facilities and fleet – is paying off.
For example, a new warehouse in Wakefield replaced a 1940s facility in Yeadon. The warehouse has LED lighting and a new electric materials handling equipment fleet with high-frequency charging – cutting energy consumption by 60%. In addition, the warehouse location means Bibby has reduced contract road miles by 540,000.
Other initiatives include the specification of more energy-efficient vehicles. Last year, Bibby invested in five new juice tankers, with a lightweight and robust chassis. The average load per tanker has increased by 4% – the equivalent of taking 100 tanker loads off the road.
