Biffa relies on Mercedes for emergency response vehicles21 December 2015

Waste firm Biffa has taken delivery of four Mercedes-Benz Sprinters to launch its new emergency waste removal service, OneCall.

Supplied by dealer Intercounty Truck & Van, of Wellingboroug, the order is for three long-bodied Sprinter 313 CDIs – soon to be joined by a further five – and a Sprinter 313 CDI with cage bodywork by Tipmaster, of London.

Biffa OneCall offers emergency waste removal from a single point of contact, 24/7, 365 days a year, and provides response times from three hours.

“It’s a premium service which supports businesses around the clock,” says Will Gallagher, supply chain and logistics category manager for Biffa. “The crucial aspect of the service is the speed of response … so reliability was the paramount factor when we came to choose vehicles.

“We could be dealing with anything from fly-tipped waste, to fire or flood damage, freezer breakdowns, pollution spills or even asbestos removal.”

This brings the total number of vehicles supplied to Biffa by the dealer to 45, which includes Sprinter, New Vita and Citan models in medium-length, long and extra-long versions.

“The fact that we can now buy Mercedes-Benz vans in three different sizes is very helpful,” adds Gallagher. “Our mobile engineers are called into action on a variety of jobs, so it’s a big advantage having the right vehicle for each task.”
