BJ Crowther sees ‘significant’ fuel benefits with Volvo Dynafleet06 February 2018

Oldham-based BJ Crowther is reporting “significant” fuel benefits from a trial of Volvo’s Dynafleet fleet management system.

Four weeks into a three-month trial of the system, arranged by dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials, the operator can already see major gains in fuel consumption as well as improvements in driver behaviour.

BJ Crowther’s managing director Phil Crowther receives a summary of results each month, but the Dynafleet app enables real-time monitoring of the performance of the five-strong fleet of Volvo FMX tippers, too.

The Dynafleet updated app version now also ranks drivers’ performance, based on a total fuel efficiency score, so fleet users can identify any drivers who need additional training. Drivers can also track their own score and compare their results with others.

“I’m keen to establish a ‘best practice’ league, with a prize at the end of each month for the best performing driver,” says Crowther. “However, there are a number of mitigating factors to consider, such as area of operation and vehicle type, as we run a sole 13-litre FMX 380hp [375bhp] rigid alongside four 11-litre, 410hp [404bhp] models.

“There are also three different differential ratios to consider, but the Dynafleet app covers all this and we can also assign the fleet to a particular type of usage – in our case, construction,” he adds.
