Booths telematics project reveals massive potential 04 July 2013

The logistics team at Booths Supermarkets says operators could reduce fuel bills by 5%, with some seeing as much as 19% cuts, bu using low-cost telematics.

Booths has been working with Isotrak to improve its HGV delivery fleet's efficiency and says its trucks are being fitted with the company's CANBus modules to make this happen.

As a result, the firm is capturing real-time data around its key performance indicators, helping the Booths' team to focus on improving fuel efficiency, idling time, use of cruise control and braking.

Mark Glover, head of logistics at Booths, explains that the Isotrak CANBus engine management module generates instant driving style reports that are leading to fuel savings when integrated with daily driver debriefs.

Key to the module is the ability for drivers to be trained to perform smooth acceleration and braking, optimise cruise control utilisation and avoid excessive idling, he says.

"The drivers have been extremely helpful in assisting with identifying the KPIs that will make the biggest difference to our delivery performance and efficiency as well as reducing our running costs," states Glover.

"We believe that this is a relatively small investment in technology and that it will provide a range of benefits to the company and our personnel," he adds.
