Brazilian semi-trailers get Wabco ABS technology 31 January 2013

Half a dozen trailer manufacturers in Brazil are to have their units fitted with Wabco anti-lock braking systems (ABS), after the supplier was awarded six contracts in the country.

The deals hinge on new safety legislation that came into force on 1 January 2013, which mandates that 40% of commercial vehicles produced by each OEM (including trailer manufacturers) during 2013 must be equipped with ABS.

As of January 2014, all new trucks, buses and trailers must have ABS installed.

The trailer manufacturers that placed recent orders with Wabco in Brazil include Facchini, Guerra, Rodofort and Usicamp, with two other local manufacturers making up the six.

Together, these companies supply around 45% of the new semi-trailers manufactured in Brazil, the single largest market in South America.
