Dubbed Bridgestone Retorque, the free app has been developed after 10 years of data gathering among bus, truck and trailer OE manufacturers and, according to product and marketing manager Andy Mathias, offers the correct torque settings for all vehicles.
“Since 2005, we have been collecting re-torque data from all original equipment manufacturers which we have historically supplied to our Bridgestone Partners in a manual,” explains Mathias.
“We are now delighted to offer a user-friendly, simple e-solution,” he continues, adding that it is also free to competitions and works at the swipe of a mobile phone or tablet.
“We decided to make it free of charge because the security and safety of commercial fleets is more important than creating revenue,” he adds.
Mathias states that the transport industry needs a solution like Bridgestone’s re-torque app, pointing to the fact that up to 12 people are killed on roads each year due to detaching wheels.
Over-tightening is just as dangerous as under-tightening, he adds, noting that this can cause studs to crack and wheels to become loose.
Bridgestone’s innovative offering is the latest Total Tyre System from its Total Tyre Care service, designed to enable operators to better manage tyre-related costs courtesy.
