Bus maker extends service life with Eaton’s FC800 EverCool hose12 December 2019

Bus manufacturer Evobus, part of Daimler, has boosted the life expectancy of hose assemblies in its vehicles by choosing the FC800 EverCool refrigerant hose, designed by Eaton for use in bus air-conditioning units.

Typically, rigid lines made of copper or other similar material carry the refrigerant from the roof unit to and from the compressor, which is mounted on the engine. However, engine movement of up to 1.5cm places strain on the hose, which must also withstand temperatures of up to 125°C and pressures of up to 25bar.

This can cause premature failure or refrigerant leakage, says Eaton, adding that its FC800 EverCool product has high temperature resistance and very low permeation rate. In addition, it is flexible enough to cope with movement between the compressor and hoses when the engine starts.

Service life can be extended “from months to years”, claims Eaton, and the product is compatible with R407C and HFO1234yf refrigerants (also known as R1234yf).
