Cartwright apprentices rewarded for outstanding achievement15 December 2015

Four apprentices at body and trailer maker Cartwright are celebrating after winning prizes in its annual awards scheme.

The second-year apprentices were recognised for their commitment, attendance, conduct and overall progress. Apprentice of the year title went to Thomas Tutty (far left), with runners up (left to right) Jacob Ritchie, Peter Holt and Rhys McAvoy.

Mark Cartwright, group MD, presented the winners with cash prizes and tool vouchers.

“Selecting just four apprentices out of our 2014 intake was a tough decision,” he says. “Each of the four young apprentices has had an exemplary first year and set an example for others to follow.”

The business has employed more than 120 apprentices since its programme began four years ago and is targeting a further 50 for its January 2016 intake.

Sale-born Thomas Tutty (17) is following in the footsteps of his father in joining Cartwright as an apprentice, and has selected coachbuilding as his chosen department.

“While the coachbuilding section is my preferred choice, the skills I have developed since I first started my apprenticeship mean I can turn my hand to anything.”

The apprentices begin the programme with a one-week induction at the Stockport Engineering Training Association (SETA), covering health and safety and functional skills. They then work four days a week at Cartwright and one day a week at SETA until they pass all training and assessment standards.
