Cartwright on the look out for 40 more apprentices 25 March 2014

Cartwright has launched another recruitment drive for a further 40 new apprentices in the 16 – 19 age range, who will bring the total employed by the body and trailer manufacturer to 120 in the past two years.

Cartwright director Mark Cartwright says the apprenticeships programme has been a resounding success, in terms of fulfilling the firm's goal of maintaining its skill sets.

Several of the first year's intake have already progressed to Level Three, he says, having been fast-tracked into purchasing, stores, the drawing office, coachbuilding, paint and fabrication.

Cartwright also draws attention to the company's apprenticeship scheme with the new Welding and Fabrication Centre of Excellence at Stockport College. That now leads to a Level 2 engineering apprenticeship, with the opportunity to continue to Level 3 and HND.

"Our apprenticeship programme has proved to be a great success," comments Cartwright.

"Not only have the youngsters taking part developed new skills, but they are also now making a valuable contribution to the manufacturing process," he continues.

"It is equally heartening to see their enthusiasm and willingness to learn and embrace new challenges. It is very much our intention to continue to nurture and develop young people and provide them with the necessary skills to pursue a career in manufacturing within the commercial vehicle marketplace."
