Charlie the hamster steers Volvo FMX in new film ‘stunt 18 September 2013

Following last year's viral Ballerina stunt, Volvo Trucks is back with a new series – this time with Charlie the hamster demonstrating the power of the firm's Dynamic Steering on a Volvo FMX.

Jan-Inge Svensson, the engineer behind the Dynamic Steering software, explains that an electric motor replaces the driver's muscle power – making it possible for the 6oz hamster to steer the truck.

"At low speeds, a heavily laden vehicle is so easy to manoeuvre that it can be steered with just one finger," comments Svensson.

Which is why the hamster is able to steer the truck up the side of a Spanish quarry without toppling the truck over the edge.

Charlie the hamster evidently undertook several weeks' training. Not sure how much training Precision driver Seon Rogers needed.
