Chevin celebrates 25 years in vehicle fleet software 17 September 2015

Belper, Derbyshire-based Chevin Fleet Solutions has reached its quarter century this month, with founder Ashley Sowerby (pictured) still managing director.

“The Chevin systems of 25 years ago look positively antiquated by today’s standards,” comments Sowerby.

“They were very rarely networked and could only receive limited amounts of data through a floppy disk or by hand keying,” he continues.

“However, they were designed with the same objectives that we pursue today – to help customers manage their fleets in a safe, responsible, efficient and cost-effective manner.”

Sowerby says Chevin’s success has been due to using the most appropriate new technology to help customers manage their fleets effectively and efficiently.

He cites milestones as including the introduction of FleetWave in 2001, believed to be the first web-based fleet management software system, and the opening of offices in the US in 2002, in Australia in 2009 and in Brussels in 2011.

Today, more than 850,000 vehicles across 120 countries are managed using Chevin software, ranging from public sector, utility, construction and corporate organisation through to governments and international aid operations of every size and type.
