Chilled foods distributor dines out on fuel savings with Scania25 February 2014

Samworth Brothers Distribution has acquired its first Scania trucks, a fleet of 15 R 440 LA6x2/2MNA Streamline Highline tractor units.

The deal follows trials, which revealed fuel savings of between 1.25 and 1.6mpg, compared with the Leicester-based operator's existing (unnamed) vehicles. The firm also evaluated Scania rental vehicles for 12 months to verify its findings.

"Achieving maximum fuel efficiency is very important to us, for our operational capability and in terms of environmental footprint," comments Richard Burnett, Samworth's managing director.

"This has been an important project and the initial indications are that we are seeing good improvements."

Samworth Brothers Distribution is the distribution arm of Samworth Brothers, which manufactures products for retailers as well as its own brand goods, such as Ginster.
